SANDAKPHU, DARJEELING

                                                              SANDAKPHU

Sandakphu or Sandakpur is a mountain peak in the Singalila Ridge on the border between India and Nepal. It is the ridge's highest point and the state of West Bengal, India. The peak is located at the edge of the Singalila National Park and has a small village on the summit with a few hotels where you can stay and rest and then start your journey ahead.

HOW TO REACH?

If you are planning to visit by train, New Jalpaiguri is the nearest railway station (NJP). NJP connects with other major railway stations of Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, etc. So, after reaching NJP, you just need to hire a taxi to reach the base of Sandakphu Trekking.

And if you are coming with a flit Bagdogra is the nearest airport to Sandakphu, located in Siliguri which is about 100km away from Darjeeling.

No matter where you are coming from the railway station or airport, you will first need to come to Manebhanjan which is a small township at an altitude of 7,054ft. Manebhanjan is at a distance of 85km from NJP via Mirik and 82km from Bagdogra. It takes 4 hours to reach there by car. So most tourists prefer to stay at Manebhanjan or Mirik and then proceed to Sandakphu the next morning. The distance of Sandakphu is 32km from Manebhanjan.

There are around 35-40 old Land Rover vehicles in    Manebhanjan that are used for taking tourists to Sandakphu and Phalut. Generally, commercial vehicles even private cars are not allowed to operate on this route as tourist transport. The Singalila Land Rover Owener's Welfare Association imposes this restriction as a measure to protect the livelihood of Land Rover and Bolero owners.

You can also visit this place like- Maine Bhanjang, Singalila, and Phalut these are also some unrealistic places in India that feel unreal.
